I love this wonderful neighborhood restaurant and bar. It’s hidden away in a cool 1920s vintage storefront on auto row. There are banquette tables, black and white tile floors that remind you of Oakland in its hey day. The menu is down home, southern and generous. It tastes like aunties and grandmas are cooking for the family - pot roasts, meat loaf, roast chicken, bread pudding… The staff is unfailingly hospitable and friendly. Inexpensive creative cocktails and long happy hours make it even more welcoming. There’s always been a sports channel on and the noise level is pretty high. It’s clear to me why there is always a crowd of neighborhood regulars every time we come. I highly recommend Z Cafe!

The crab cake appetizer was delicious and could make a meal for 1. The chicken piccata was huge and way too lemony/sour for my taste. The pork slider and jambalaya were very good. Children were served quickly and enjoyed their meals. The servers were very attentive. We arrived just as they opened and were warmly welcomed for our reservation.

The food was flavorful, abundant and priced very reasonably. This is a restaurant and bar and we were there on a Friday night. So, it was noisy. But everyone was having a good time, so it was just fine. Will definitely go back there.

Sister had the daily special, which was Fried Chicken with Garlic Mashed Potatoes. I had the "Z" Burger with Bacon and Cheese with Garlic Fries on the side.

I ordered the lobster ravioli and my spouse ordered the spaghetti and meatballs special. Both of our entrees were delicious and the portions were good too. Our waiter was friendly and attentive.

Had my usual Spicy Shrimp with Garlic Fries. Then to try something different I had the Roasted Beet Salad with Kale. Salad was surprisingly delicious
