Rye Street Tavern
Rye Street Tavern is a tribute to Baltimore’s mid-Atlantic roots, and the city’s industrial era that was fueled by neighborhood taverns and Chesapeake comfort cuisine. Chef Carmellini’s menu features locally-grown ingredients, farm-raised meats including his famous fried chicken, sustainable seafood and raw bar, and plenty of Maryland crab. This is a wonderful place. The service is fantastic. The food is delicious. The setting is magical. I will surely go back again!
Sadly my only real complaint was with the noise level. It was terribly loud
Amazing ambiance and food! Great bar with delicious drinks.
The experience at Rye Street Tavern was exceptional. It is one of those places where you can go and spend special occasion monies or just a nice night out and feel satisfied either way. The drinks go down way too easy and they have used the spirits of the distillery next door to develop unique drinks that hit your taste buds in many ways. Appetizers are strong - a "simple" roasted carrot dish is transformed to something decadent.
Main courses are varied. My wife had the roasted quail over a wild rice pilaf. To be honest, you could serve anything over that rice pilaf and a person would be happy. Quail was cooked perfectly too. I had the pork chop and housemade kielbasi - it was great. The only complaint is I would have like a little more mustard to dip it into, but I did not think of asking.
Desserts are varied and seasonal. Even if you do not want a full dessert, splurge on a homemade ice cream as the ice cream is wonderful. We had pineapple upside down cake and a piece of pecan pie. Both wonderful although cake was the favorite of the two
A special kudos to the Barrister who is responsible for steeping the tea before it is sent to the table. A nice touch and perfectly done.
Lastly - Elizabeth was our server, or the lead in a well choreographed service experience. She was wonderful and did not steer us wrong at any point, plus so friendly.
Strongly recommend.
We went for a Sunday brunch and the staff couldn't have been nicer and knowledgeable of the menu. The menu is different from your basic brunch items and very delicious!
Service was slow as well as getting the various courses. My meal which I always get and has been fabulous was undercooked the last two times I ordered it. Dissapointing.
After touring the whiskey distillery, 8 of us went to the restaurant. Beautiful decor. Gumbo was delicious .scallops moist and plump. Rack of ribs were plentiful and tasty. Desserts were very good. Down side was the service. Waitress took our orders right away . Drinks came out. Took a long time to get appetizers then diner. Dessert took an exceptionally long time to come out. Definitely worth going to.
This was a great place! Very cool atmosphere and great food! Wish they had more cocktails without rye but I get the gist!
We visited Rye Street Tavern last Friday. It was my husband's birthday and our friend suprized him with a small cake. The waiter told us there would be a cutting fee and I said ok thinking it would be similar to a corking fee, around $7. He did not disclose the amount and we were charged $30 to cut the cake as they charge per piece served. The fee was more expensive than the cake!
Our guest requested mustard with his hamburger and the waiter stated twice that they did not have any mustard. At the end of our meal our guest jokingly asked the person boxing our left overs to take home for mustard to go; she brought it to the table!
Not a good experience.
Not only is the restaurant beautiful but the food is quite delicious! We were very impressed with our entire dining experience.
I made a reservation for two, but we got engaged here and it was really a dinner for nine!!! It was the most amazing night!
Truly delicious food and excellent service! Would recommend this to locals or to anyone visiting from out of town. Be sure to use Uber or Lyft, there is no taxi service but the service people at the restaurant really helped us out getting back to our hotel. Awesome specialty drink menu too.
I found this place looking for something different from where I usually eat lunch, a franchise spot. This place was amazing! The location was random but absolutely stunning on the water. The atmosphere was a rustic modern feel that I quite enjoyed. The food was great! However, the best thing that's a must to try is the Vanilla Buttermilk pie. OH. MY. WORD. I don't know what witchcraft is done on this baked good but it was the best thing I've had by way of pie EVER, and I don't eat pie!!!! This is a must on my list of places to dine at again. I can't wait to visit them for dinner.
Our server Todd was wonderful as was the food. Sooo tasty. Also loved the take home muffin!
As usual Rye Street Tavern met our expectations. All our guests were suitably impressed and satisfied. Food was great and our server Amanda was attentive and thoughtful. Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you
So many enticing items on the menu it was hard to choose. Two of our group settled on the fried chicken and biscuits. Just so we could taste more things, we persuaded another to get the jerk fried chicken and I had rockfish with shrimp and grits. All was very tasty. We were meh on the brussel sprouts that were highly touted by our server. They were big, a bit under cooked and he forgot to order them when he submitted the rest of our meal. Pineapple upside down cake was delicious.
I was with a party of 4 on a Thursday. The restaurant had a decent crowd for dinner but not packed. Very nice atmosphere. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. All of the food was good except for one entree - a squash lasagna. They should take it off the menu. It’s a gigantic, heavy slab that apparently is difficult to heat evenly because it was cold in the middle. When we pointed this out to our server she told the kitchen. The manager came to our table and apologized. My friend said she would just take it to go. For the inconvenience, the restaurant should have comped that entree, or at least something that we ordered. They did not. That was bad form.
I met my friend from San Francisco here for brunch. We both had our babies. It was sufficiently loud enough that other tables weren’t bothered by baby noise, but quiet enough to have a conversation. The wait staff were friendly, and very accommodating to the kids. The food was excellent. I’d highly recommend the burger and the fried oysters. We’ll be back- but prob without the kids for dinner. The restaurant is really beautiful.
Food was just ok
We went here for a birthday celebration. The atmosphere was great! However the food was only ok - and the prices were very high - especially the drink prices. I don't mind paying more for excellent quality - but that was not the case. They need to improve the quality to justify the prices.
great lunch spot. recommend the oysters and the gumbo. The service is fine, nice outdoor seating. Great cocktail program and good wine BTG.
We had steak salad (steak was delicious and salad was good), crab with Bloody Mary, ribs (ribs were cooked too long. Dry and not tender), cornbread was excellent, beer was very good, wine was very good, pineapple upside down cake was good (ice cream was doing too much. Plain vanilla would have been better).
The view of the water is beautiful and the outdoor seating is really nice (especially when the twinkle lights are on as the sun is going down). I was a bit disappointed with the food. The oysters were not properly shucked. The waiter was really nice though, he offered us free drinks because our meals were taking longer than expected. You're definitely paying for the view. The food was mediocre.
Fried green tomato BLT & Pimm's Cup were a great brunch!! Can't beat that view! Dine outside whenever the weather permits then enjoy the indoors when you can. It's so cozy.
Excellent food all around the table! Mostly seafood eaters but one ordered and enjoyed his steak. Trout was wonderful, wrapped in bacon and served on a bed of succotash. Very ample portion - more than I could eat.
The establishment is super cool. Loved being in the space. The service was hot and cold. They wouldn’t split the tuna bowl my friend and I shared which was weird. But then they brought warm towels at the end of our meal which was a nice touch. Tons of guys in suits working yet they did very little to help out with service. The menu is still the same from last year when I was there for my birthday in January. Need to update it a little Our food was also great and lack luster at the same time. Tuna bowl was excellent. The burger was a little small. The meat plate entree of hangar steak and sausage was like a medium size steak salad not an entree for a hungry man. The cocktails were amazing. Just a few tweaks needed to make this place amazing
Nice place ,but pricey
This restaurant was highly recommended, maybe that's why we were so disappointed? Incredibly loud, I mean REALLY loud--yelling across the table loud! Food was only okay and the drinks were strong, but not tasty. Waiter was nice, but noticeably tending too many tables. The inside is really decorated well. We wished we had asked for an outdoor table instead, however won't be going back.
The service needs work. If you are charging 35 dollars for Flank Steak, a low cost cut of beef, then the service needs to make up for it.
Loved the ambiance of rye street tavern. We were there on a Wednesday night for happy hour then dinner. Drinks were really small just slightly about half of a martini glass.. when I commented to the waiter about the size of the drink. He said that was the pour size. And I was not alone in commenting on that. For appetizers we had eggplant which as delicious and fried tomatoes which was very good also. Dinner we had burgers that were fine but nothing to write home about and ribs which were good. Overall experience was nice but would not run back ..
What a beautiful view outside and inside! The decor is fabulous as is the menu. Small bites to generous entrees. The rye is delicious. My first time drinking rye whiskey. Very smooth and the cocktails were very good. Service was attentive and very knowledgeable.
Incredible meal from start to finish. Service was attentive. Food was delicious.
Food was fantastic. Waitress was very knowledgeable. Service was on point
Starting with the wonderful reception we received when we arrived, out evening at Rye Street was top notch. Our server, Luis, was outstanding and he went out of his way to ensure that our dietary restrictions were considered. Patrick, the general manager, was also terrific. The menu is creative and varied, the drink selection was creative as well, and the food well presented, well prepared and outstanding. We look forward to returning.
Loved this place! The decor is incredible. The people were the best— the host Amber was great, the server was knowledgeable, the manager was friendly. And the food?! Everything was tasty. I especially loved the peach and blackberry cobbler. And the see ya later pastry (that’s what I call it for it came after the bill and was given just because). I cannot wait to come back.
Excellent location. Great food, great atmosphere. Would for sure return. Great seafood selection.
Appetizers were good, desserts were great. Dinner was not impressive and had a very limited selection. For 100 per person avg bill, they need to kick it up a couple notches!
Delicious food, excellent service and terrific ambience.
Definitely worth a visit!
Might be the best service I've ever had. Every single member of the staff was outstanding. *Everyone* knew it was a special occasion and that I'm gluten-free, which I'd noted in our reservation notes. Our server provided great guidance on the menu, and the sommelier stopped by for a very helpful and interesting conversation -- without even the hint of an upsell. This is well worth the drive from DC, and I can't wait to celebrate something else so I have an excuse to go back.
