A return visit. We enjoy The Partisan. Good food, especially the charcuterie, and an excellent beer selection. Ambience in restaurant is different than in the bar, much less tumultuous.
Fabulous food, choices, cocktails and service!!
Food was incredible and staff was knowledgeable and attentive
The service was awful. The server got our drink order, and never came back. Then eventually another server took over, and the original server ended up with these loud people sitting behind us talking the whole time. The new server took so long to get us drinks, food, and our check. Then assumed that the change left over was her tip, and it was over 30% (she definitely did not deserve that much of a tip).
My husband and I visited The Partisan on our first night visiting DC. It is in a pretty central location to a majority of the rest of the monuments and notable buildings, and our hotel was nearby, so we were able to walk to the restaurant.
We were about 20 minutes early for our reservation, so the hostess let us sit at the bar for a little. We ordered a charcuterie plate, and, because it took a little time, they were kind enough to make sure to transfer it to our table when we were seated.
The interior of the restaurant is soothing and dark, if a little noisy. Since it is a small space, you are seated very close to other tables, but you are not uncomfortable.
The drinks were delicious, a nice healthy pour. They are a little pricy, but it worth the cost. We loved the charcuterie plate. If we had ordered another couple meats and cheeses, it would have been more than enough for dinner. However, we ordered the kale and mushroom salad, the steak, and the papparadelle for dinner to share. AND that was plenty of food. My husband and I were stuffed. We did not particularly like the kale and mushroom salad, it was a little too bitter, but everything else was excellent.
Great food! Such a fun place to get small plates and share with friends. We tried a bit of everything and it was all delicious
Great time as always. Great food, slightly slow service but in the middle of a big hockey rush.
Enjoyed the food immensely and was great pregame spot for sharing small plates and charcuterie with friends. Good drinks and craft beer though they could improve their IPA offering with some DC Brau or possibly RVA offering like Triple Crossing or RAR out of Maryland. The service was subdued and slow for draft beer especially compared to my previous visit. Not a cheap place to go but I like it more than other options I've had around the Cap Center.
Good food for lunch
We regularly come here for good food and a great wine and cocktail list.
We visited the Partisan twice while in DC. Once for cocktails on Friday night and once for dinner on Saturday night. Both were good experiences. Bar staff was nice and their cocktails were really good. Dinner was good. The wild mushroom and kale salad was amazing. The Carne Asada Flaken ribs were just average. If I went again I'd try something else. The service was very good and the location and ambiance of the restaurant are great.
Words can't convey how poor the this restaurant was. We arrived at 5:30 and the place was empty except for one table. Of course we were set right next to that table. The server read our table wrong from the start. The brussel sprouts were dripping in oil. My son's lamb ragout had 2-3 pieces of lamb. On, & on it goes. This is one of worst restaurants we've eaten at.
I'm glad The Partisan has simplified it's menu to one page. (The binder arrangement before was too overwhelming and confusing.) Our server was pretty bad. Left dirty glasses on the table, was gone for long stretches, got my companion's 3rd drink order wrong. The food was incredibly delicious, however!
Excellent meal. The pork chop was amazing. The sides were excellent. A Brussels sprouts hater asked where they have been all their life.
One of my favorites in DC. Great service and imaginative menu.
We had the absolute best waiter, Rob. Perfect night, would highly recommend !!
I always love eating at The Partisan. However, this time, we had to wait almost an hour for our table AFTER our confirmed reservation time. The restaurant even called me 20 minutes before our reservation time to confirm. Apparently the diners before us were lingering for quite some time. The hostess was not the most welcoming, and seemed to be annoyed that we were checking in on our table after the first 15 minutes of waiting. Finally, the manager stepped in and offered us drinks and snacks at the bar on the house, which was very nice! When we finally sat, the food seemed to come out much more slowly than previous times we have dined at The Partisan. The food was wonderful except for the rhubarb tart. The rhubarb on top was inedible. The Partisan normally has wonderful service and food, which is why I was excited to bring my parents and in-laws here. I felt bad for them that we ended up eating so much later in the evening than planned.
Great charcuterie board. Everything was delicious, although a little salty.
Great food and beer selection. The crispy pork pata was tasty and perfectly cooked. The vegetarian sides (mushroom & kale, shishito peppers, and asparagus) were a great companion to the meal.
I took my wife, 17 year old son and 11 year old daughter for Mother's day. The food was outstanding! We started with the Chef's Charcuterie which had Canadian Bacon (yum), Traditional bacon (yum yum), Sausage Patties (OK) and Scrapple (OH MY GOD!!!! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE). We also ordered the Beef fat fries (see reaction to scrapple), Grits with Pimento Cheese (Excellent) and Pancakes. On top of that, my wife and daughter each ordered the Ham and and Cheese and Toast (Mom Loved, daughter thought it was too sweet as it was drizzled with honey). Son had the pancake burger which he was enthralled with and I had the Pastrami Hash which was spectacular!
As far as the service goes, it was a bit slow, but I think that is by design (although I may be wrong about this). This is a "small plates" menu, and they seem to be allowing you to enjoy each course. Since I hate being rushed through a meal, I was quite happy with that approach. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and quite pleasant.
The environment itself was very relaxed and casual. There is a bar in the back of the restaurant that is almost as big as the restaurant itself. Looked like it would be a lot of fun. Don't forget to check the "Pig shrine" near the restrooms.
All in all, a great place. I will be going back at night to try the Steak Tartare!
Thought food was good but a bit overpriced for what you got.
It is a very casual place considering its location. I brought my wife and son here for mother’s day. Food was really good and the service was not bad. The drinks were great I guess I was expecting more based on reviews but it was good and I will come back again.
An unusual menu, delicious food, friendly staff. We throughly enjoyed it.
First: The decor is fun. Second: The service is great! Friendly staff, who are willing to answer and anticipate questions and guide you through dining experience. I know that is their job, but Devon was attentive without feeling pushy. She made great recommendations, and her honesty was appreciated. The BF and I were/are newbies, and felt a bit overwhelmed by the options. The staff charcuterie was a great starter; the wagyu brisket was luxurious, absolutely a must. The triple burger was intimidating, intense, and incredibly delicious... all at once. The rabbit dish, with tarragon and mustard seed was also delicious.
It was a wonderful date, and we’ll be back if/when we come back to D.C.
Food was great but not generous proportions. 3 of us did chartucerie and cheese and some other nibbles. The menu at the restaurant seemed smaller than what was on line and cheese and drinks we requested were not available. Waiter was very nice when he was around. Not sure we will be back.
We love the Partisan, and go here multiple times a season before Hockey games. The service is friendly, the food excellent, and it generally is quiet enough to have a conversation(see comment below). Attention to details are in the food and the drink. The Charcuterie tied to the store allows for innovative choices. All very good check the menu.
We had one small issue last time that seemed rather silly. We arrive early in the dinner service before the hockey game, and the place was almost entirely empty. The only loud spot in the whole place was a cluster by the bar of about 8-10 boisterous drinkers. The hostess passed more than a dozen empty tables to offer us one next to the loud group, which seemed to be silly. We asked for and were moved away to a spot where we could actually hear each other talk.
Food and drinks were phenomenal! Service was slow but friendly
The second time dining at the partisan was not as good as the first. Our server was very short with us and rushed us. She made it seem like there was a long wait but there was not. The food was good, but just overall it was not as good as our first dining experience.
It took 2.5 hours for a party of four to complete a meal. The pace of service was atrocious. On a Saturday night, the restaurant wasn't full. 25 mins to get drinks, once the waiter got around to the table periodically we could order more. Cringed when we ordered dessert because is was going to be another 40 mins. We didn't leave until 10:30. Just don't have plans after.
The ambiance was great which is what initially attracted me to the place. The service, however, was fair to poor. We ordered five or six plates. We received two plates after a rather long wait considering the establishment was half empty. One of the plates had a rather noticeable human hair in it. We were given a new plate and comped on our bill. After finishing these items we had to inquire about the other four plates and it was obvious the waitress had forgotten we ordered additional items. The quality of the food was good, however, given the price I do not think the quality made up for the poor service experience.
The meat and cheese plates at the Partisan are amazing. We tried a variety of meats except for the "spicy" category and they were all delish. We also tried the Brussels sprouts, beet salad and the ribeye. Honestly, the ribeye was just okay, but the other items were amazing. Great place for sharing plates among friends.
Had dinner here after the afternoon Caps game on a Saturday evening. We focused on the tapas/small plates and shared 4 different dishes. Burger was very good, crispy Brussel sprouts were a bit too salty for my liking. Beef fat fries were decedent, and the grilled prawns were tasty. Looking forward to coming back for another visit to try other dishes on the menu. Decent wines by the glass including the sommelier selections (higher quality and price). Nice to be able to get a really nice glass of wine rather than having to buy a bottle.
Very fun place for lunch. The food was delicious! Service was great. Highly recommend.
I remember when their slogan was “a candy store for meat lovers. “It’s still one. Our server was very helpful in giving us advice. We ordered several of the small charcuterie items, each of which was delicious. We then had the WAugust brisket and fried chicken and a salad and french fries French fries, which should not be missed. We shared everything among the five of us. The only thing we didn’t absolutely l e was the polenta pound cake, which was a tad dry.
We showed up for our reservation with out of town guests to discover that the restaurant was closed for maintenance. Even if they had a last-minute issue, we should have been notified that they were closed. I didn't want to completely skew their rating by giving them 1-star ratings when we didn't experience anything about the restaurant, so I gave them a 1-star for service and 3-stars for everything else. Disappointed.
Excellent lunch at The Partisan. Best meatball sub I've ever had. Amazing beer selection. Tons of beers -- and I know my beer -- that I've never heard of before. Local microbrews too. I'll try the burger next time.
It was a Birthday Brunch for my lover!
Everything we ate and drank was seriously fantastic
Was fine but nothing special. Definitely not a top 100 restaurant but not the worst place either. Was easy to get Saturday night reservations so that was nice too...
A B- at best. The hashbrowns were creative yet made from frozen hashbrowns. The brussel sprouts were frozen then over roasted. The white wine had to be chilled is the speed cooler. Expected more for the price.
