Vine Street Cafe
Great fall dinner. Pasta & zoodles with seafood and Salmon with bok choy. Everything was delicious. Service was gracious and efficient. Great meal. Leftovers were great the next day!

Honestly we were pretty disappointed all around. Table was great, quieter side of restaurant. Waitress didn’t know what was in the spicy tuna tartar that made it spicy. Lobster bisque was tasty but no chunks of lobster. Halibut was over cooked and dry. Duck pate was lovely. Asked 4 times for limes. Waitress never came back to check on us once she opened our bottle of wine - until it came to presenting us with the check. No cooler for chilled wine; sat on the table and we served ourselves. Entrees arrived before we were done with our appetizers. Prices really high for quality - and we’re from NYC. Have been coming to the island for 20 years and it was our first time at Vine. Had heard great things; guess we’ll have to try it again next year, maybe earlier in the season.
Excellent service! Pretty busy night for the “off” season! Delicious lamp chops and halibut! Always a night well spent!

While the restaurant had a cool look, it was WAY too expensive for what they served. Not that impressed.
So super yummy! If you visit Shelter Island, definitely add this place to you list.

My husband thought his duck was dry but the pickled beet salad is terrific. Tuna tartare a bit too spicy. Service very slow.

Planned the trip to Vine Street Cafe for a birthday dinner, we have gone to the owner's Manhattan restaurant many times so expected the same quality. Food was very average at best, the soup was extremely watered down. The biggest blunder was the birthday part, shortly after arriving I went up to the woman at the front to make sure that candles would be put on one of the desserts we ordered. She said yes was already aware of the birthday and said it would be taken care of. Desserts come and no candles, I went up to speak with her and she blandly apologized for the mistake and then brought out a terrible scoop of ice cream with a candle and stale biscotti. It was an absolutely terrible response for their terrible mistake.

The ambiance was great, the staff was always polite, knowledgeable and always came with a smile. The food was excellent, including its presentation which showed the attention to detail with which it was prepared. We will be back.
A very crowded Saturday night but our reserved table was kept for us. Service was efficient, food good although a little above average in price. The room was extremely noisy, and car parking was a bit of a challenge. It's probably much quiet on other days of the week.
The food was good to very good. My skirt steak was not tender. Good skirt steak can almost be cut with a fork. My piece needed sawing with a steak knife! Everything else I ate was quite good. I was sharing the steak with a friend. I asked my waitperson to have them split it in the kitchen. I was told that they don’t do that. I replied that restaurants of this caliber should be doing that without even asking. She came back later to tell me that the kitchen agreed to split it as if this was an accomplishment. More importantly the bathrooms were a disgusting mess. Again, a restaurant of this caliber should have someone checking them periodically and cleaning them if required. When I mentioned this on my way out to the 2 young women at the front I could tell that they could not have cared less even though they gave me lip service when I told them that they seemed not to care. That is not how a high end dining experience should be even if
It is Sunday night of Labor Day weekend.
It is one of the nicest, most delicious restaurants I have been to. I was very happy with our meal on Sunday night- I had some concerns because my brother took a party of 4 there are on Saturday night and it was a disaster!!!!! Slow inattentive service. Then to make up for the problem they offered dessert on the house and took so long to come out with the dessert-he wasn't happy and I was concerned. Our experience was quite different.
The menu is wonderful and the food is delicious. It's rustic chic and executed beautifully. I could eat there every night and go through the entire menu and be happy. It's casual and fun and yummy. Great vibe.

We had knowledgeable wait staff (we inquired about the yummy bread) who were extremely attentive. The place is homey yet sophisticated. The food is good, very good but not commensurate with the outrageous prices. We eat out, and well, a lot but haven’t spent that much in a long while.
The food was really incredible and the service was some of the best we have had since being in the Hamptons. Really lovely place! Can’t wait to go back next year.

We love vine street and go on and off season for many years. We booked a table a month ahead to take friends visiting from Europe because we love it so much. We asked to be outside and where seated in a new area which is between the side of the restaurant and the road (unpleasant as we where sitting there several people where shown a table that side and left) , unlike where we usually sit overlooking the woods. The table on the nicer side was available as we where the second table in the restaurant to arrive at 5:30 but the hostess told us she could not seat us there because it’s for a table of 10. She was very unpleasant and rude. When we left there was a table of 8 seated at the table we requested. Nice to be lied to maybe she thought we couldn’t count. We will not be going back anytime soon. That was very insulting.

we had a lovely ferry ride over & were anticipating a nice evening. it was our anniversary. i stated that in our reservation as well as our table preferences. the hostess attempted to seat us a 2 tables that were not acceptable. i suggested 2 other options, which she had to check with someone, which resulted in "no". she then brought us to the back room & offered an end table next to the bar. i asked for the table next to that one. she again had to 'check', returning only to tell us "no" again!! we dine out ALOT & i was extremely taken back by this. if it had not been our anniversary, i absolutely would have left. mgmt apparently has no interest in accommodating their diners. we did sit at that table next to the bar...like we had a choice! about 15 minutes later the hostess brought a single in & sat them at the next table-the table i had requested & was told "NO"!!!really?!?! our waitress was pleasant & attentive & our salads were good. i had the seared day boat scallops & my husband had the pork chop &warm bean salad. the bean salad was not warm & the pork chop had a very mushy texture. my scallops were cooked perfectly & were flavorful, however, there were a few sandy/gritty bits in the dish. we then ordered an espresso, coffee & a raspberry/peach croustade. desert took quite awhile to arrive &the pastry was very overcooked in spots. they did write "happy anniversary" on the plate ...hmm...what if we didn't order desert, since no one had acknowledged our anniversary? most nicer restaurants offer a complimentary glass of champagne or desert, as a nice gesture, for a special occasion. we were very disappointed with their customer service, or lack thereof, especially on our special evening!!
Great food, best duck i have ever had. Pricey but worth it. Service was a bit scattered and it was hard locate our server at times long after water and plates had been finished. The manager Chris sent us a great dessert and was wonderful to meet! We will be back. Thank you! Jeremy Romine
Bad slow service
We love dining outside. Delicious food, wonderful ambience and excellent service makes this a favorite choice. The tuna tartar and The Salmon entree are our favorites. What a surprise to find chocolate chip mint ice cream in the profiteroles!
A definite MUST or us in Shelter Island.

It’s always a special evening at Vine St.; excellent table and ambiance, expert bartender and superb meal. Service was very good however it feels like the resto needs 1-2 more servers on-staff. Everyone is racing-around covering their tables but staffing seems light for the Summer.
We went here on vacation. Large group-10 adults and 2 kids. The food was very good-I enjoyed it. However, it is definitely overpriced (even for Shelter Island-bought the same bottle of wine I ordered out 3 nights ago and it was $18 more expensive here). The service was slow, but it was my first time here, so I know you can’t necessarily judge it by that. Overall, I liked what I had and I would try it again.
Enjoyed dining . Food delicious. Look forward to our next dining experience there

Friends of ours met us on shelter island for a Sunday evening.
The restaurant was clearly overbooked. We waited over 20 minutes to be seated and 40 minutes for our entrees. We had the tuna tartare and market salad to start and the scallops for our main course. The food was average at best. Our waitress was excellent, apologizing more than once for the delay, explaining that the kitchen was backed up. We asked to see the manager who echoed her claiming that everyone arrived at the same time and that the kitchen was overwhelmed. After speaking to the manager, we appreciated that he took 50% off our check.
Fabulous meal, good service, pleasant place!
