A rural public house serving local beers, Berkshire gin and ciders, as well as a great wine selection. Bar snacks and full meals available 7 days a week. Cooking over a central grill makes for great theatrical cooking from our open-plan kitchen, overseen by Head Chef Nick Galer. Whilst a subtle Basque feel will permeate throughout, its roots are firmly founded on those of a classic English pub – so while featuring top end Basque dishes fit for a destination dinner, it also offers simple pub snacks for a light lunch… while the food may be inspired by the Basque country, the ingredients are local… and while the wines may be sourced from Iberia, the beer is very much English.The crowning glory is the sensational open kitchen, with a huge, CHARCOAL FIRED parilla grill and a BRICK OVEN as its centrepiece and all in front of the guests – very visual and very theatrical.     Beautiful atmosphere, staff were friendly and attentive. Food was delicious and there was a musician playing Spanish guitar. Enjoyed the 2 for £18 cocktails and they were delicious too. Highly recommend. Will definitely be back.

    Delicious food and lovely cocktails. Mostly the experience was made enjoyable by lovely friendly staff who welcomed us and looked after us with care and a smile!

    A friendly venue north of the centre with a varied menu. We arrived in the quiet early evening for a pre-theatre dinner (the Playhouse and New Theatre are a short walk away), but the restaurant gradually filled and grew noisier as the evening went on. The service was friendly and attentive, and our waiter helpfully suggested complementary items from the menu. The food was delicious and arrived promptly. We shall certainly visit again.
