Da Emma is a hidden Italian gem located right in downtown Montreal. Since the restaurant itself is located below street level, many people pass by this little trattoria every day without realizing it. The only sign for it is painted on a nearby brick wall in black and white and consists entirely of a downward pointing arrow and the word "Emma". It is because it is a little hard to find that diners feel like they are in on a secret not everyone knows about.Inside, Da Emma goes with a sleek and modern style complete with dark wood tones and white tablecloths. The menu consists of both classic and modern Italian plates. Some of the intricate plates that the kitchen puts out include fettucini with porcini mushroom and truffle, veal breast in rosemary sauce, four cheese tortellini in alfredo sauce and house made meatballs in marinara.

The best part of this restaurant was the food, and that is all. The service was absolutely lackluster, the server did not smile once or engage in conversation beyond taking our order and sending us out the door. Plates and silverware were dropped on our table without a word or an “excuse me” as our server reached across us. No manners were expressed as we thanked our server for his service at any point throughout the evening. Our reservation was noted as a special occasion because my husband and I are newlyweds on our honeymoon. Not once did we receive any kindness or congratulations about this note, when every other restaurant on our honeymoon has shared some kindness. This restaurant was recommended to us for its wonderful food, romantic atmosphere, and excellent service. I am sorry to say those expectations were not met. My husband and I are greatly disappointed and we will not be returning.

This was our first time bringing people. The atmosphere and ambience is extremely nice. Gives you that Gibbys feeling. Low ceilings. Lots of stone and wood. Our waiter was ok. He seemed to have missed the mark. We were given little bruchetta toast starters. They were pretty good. One our friends had to ask multiple times for bread which was unnecessary. After selecting a nice wine. We ordered minestrone soups and one had a salad and the other ordered the artichoke starter but was brought a salad. We all looked at our waiter as we all heard what was ordered. When asked he said no that is what we ordered. He offered to change it but left it. One ordered the veal ravioli, one the mushroom pasta. The veal pasta was ok. A little dried out. The mushroom pasta was good. The veal scallipini was well portioned and quite good with nice sides. The other was a strip steak with sides. That was good but a little fatty. There was no dessert. Overall the food was ok to good but what makes this place is the ambience. Would consider another time.

Overall a great evening . The ambiance was nice the waiter was very nice and great with the 4 children at the table . He was funny and gave good recommendations . Fancy places are not always welcoming to children, we did not get that feeling here . Even the valet guy was extra friendly and let us stay parked for a while longer as we went for a walk after dinner . Highly recommend to anyone that enjoys Italian cuisine .

We were welcomed by an arrogant kid that is supposed to be a host. Unfortunately his knowledge of hospitality is poor at best. The waiter was nice and helpful. Overall service nothing to look up for. The food was good, we took the carpaccio, ravioli and steak. Ok overall but the steak was average. Unfortunately our experience was average and not planning another dinner there.

Enjoy a drink & app at the bar, then dinner someplace else. Nice enough atmosphere with history. Unfortunately our waiter seemed to be having a bad night. He was visibly annoyed when we asked about menu. Menu very limiting with 3 of 4 entrees very average. Roasted piglet was the winner and very good. Order it.
